Firefighter Position
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- Accredited Firefighter II Certificate
- Accredited Hazmat Operations Certificate
- Valid Code B driver’s licence
- First Aid Level 3 Certificate (in date) or higher qualification registered with the HPCSA
- Wildland Firefighter I and Respiratory Protection Certificates (advantageous)
- Driver Pump Operator Certificate (advantageous)
- Must pass required fitness assessments
- Minimum of 3 years continuous firefighting experience (including training period)
- No criminal record
Key Performance Areas
- Perform firefighting and emergency response operations
- Prepare for emergency incidents and implement fire prevention measures to reduce risks and protect communities
- Conduct basic maintenance and training on fire service vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Carry out basic administrative duties
- Support training, skills development, and knowledge transfer within the team
Additional Selection Requirements
Candidates who pass the fitness assessment will be required to:
- Pass a behavioural interview
- Undergo fingerprint screening for criminal record checks
- Complete a medical evaluation
- Undergo a compulsory drug test
Special Conditions
- Shift work is required
- Must be willing to work at any fire station within the area of jurisdiction as determined by the Chief Fire Officer
- Must be physically fit and able-bodied
- Required to wear uniform and personal protective clothing
- Eligible for an operational allowance
Note:
Successful candidates may be required to attend local protocol, refresher, or conversion training at the Fire Training Academy before deployment to operations.
