How to Apply for SANDF

1. Check Minimum Requirements
You must:
- Be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship for military skills applicants)
- Be 18–22 years old (up to 26 with a tertiary qualification)
- Have Grade 12
- Have no criminal record
- Meet medical and fitness requirements
- Be willing to undergo military training
2. Choose a Programme
Most applicants apply through the:
Military Skills Development System (MSDS)
- 2-year training programme
- Training in Army, Navy, Air Force, or Military Health Services
- Monthly stipend during training
- Possible permanent placement after completion
3. Get the Application Form
You can:
- Collect forms at nearest SANDF recruitment office, military base, or Department of Defence offices
- Sometimes download from the Department of Defence website when applications are open
(SANDF usually opens MSDS applications once per year.)
4. Submit Required Documents
Include certified copies of:

- Proof of residence

Submit at:
- Recruitment office

5. Selection Process

- Complete fitness assessment

6. Training
Successful candidates:
- Start basic military training
